MMU Graduate Illustrator Lyndsey Green

Lyndsey Green graduated last summer from Manchester School of Art with a degree in Illustration and has since been building up her range of handmade items for her online shop. Inspired by nature, Lyndsey incorporates her interest for wildlife into her work.

“I was always brought up surrounded by animals with regular trips to nature reserves and our particular favourite Chester Zoo, so my passion for wildlife has always been there. I love how no matter how much you learn there is always something new and incredible to discover and I am constantly stunned by some of the beautiful things that occur in the wild – they just always make me want to draw.”

“My love of film also has an influence on my artwork. I studied media at A-level and the composition and storyboarding aspect of it inspired bringing a narrative to my illustrations, which led to my other big love which is children’s picture books. Some particular favourites would have to be books by the incredibly talented Shaun Tan with his thought provoking and quirky tales. I’m also inspired by many other wonderful illustrators, particularly Sandra Dieckmann’s beautiful work.

I’m currently doing work experience with Elizabeth Prince, a talented ceramicist based in Prestwich. She has a lovely studio space above a beautiful haberdashery and gift shop called Ellie Magpie. She’s taught me loads about running your own business and online Etsy shop, and generally given me the knowledge and confidence boost to really go for it. I’ve also had stalls at a few Art Fairs recently, the best being the Manchester Print Fair and Liverpool’s Winter Arts Market which was held at the stunning St George’s Hall and was an absolutely wonderful weekend.”

“My items are also available in two shops in the North West, with a third in process which is exciting. The first is in Chester city centre called Funky Aardvark, and secondly the gift shop of Preston’s Brockholes Nature Reserve. This is a lovely place to visit, and 100% of the commission they take goes straight back to the nature reserve which is great. I would love to eventually produce a children’s picture book, and produce work which promotes wildlife conservation, but generally I am happy to just see where it all takes me!”
