The Churchgate Festival: Booth’s Music Celebrates 180 Years of Business!

Booth’s Music is celebrating 180 years of trading this year and they intend to make this annual event more spectacular in 2012. There will be live music along Churchgate and in the Man + Scythe all day and into the evening. For more details check out the Facebook event page

Established in 1832 by founder James Booth (the great, great, great, great grandfather of the present owners), Booth’s Music has been in the same family ever since and can be proud to have survived a number of torrid periods including 2 world wars and more than a dozen recessions. The store is the oldest music establishment in the same family throughout the UK and is believed to be one of the oldest (if not the)  in the world. With a music school, store and instrument repair service, Booths is proud to be “at the heart of Bolton’s musical community . . . aiming to help and encourage both beginners and advanced players.”

The event is part of the Bolton Arts Festival running from the 14th June to June 21st. The festival, led by the University of Bolton, is now set to be an annual event. Organisations from across the town have joined forces to make the event happen, including Bolton Council, Bolton College, Bolton Sixth Form, The Octagon Theatre, Bolton Arts Forum, Bolton at Home, numerous community groups, NeoArtists, The Market Place, The Gates and St Andrews Court development. For more information, see the University of Bolton website.

THANKS TO WARBURTONS BAKERY FOR SPONSORING THE EVENT!
