First Look at Manchester Fashion Week: Alex Christopher

Previous Article

Alex Christopher opened the third day of Manchester Fashion week yesterday, with his distinctive mens and womenswear collections. At the age of just 26, this designer has arrived onto the fashion radar and just keeps growing, constantly impressing and adding to his cult following.

A designer and the owner of boutiques across the North of England, with an “Each To Their Own” boutique in Leeds, Sheffield and most recently Manchester itself. The first boutique was opened in 2005 in a small workshop, expanding quickly to move inside a premier hair salon – Wigs and Warpaint. The lanch of the Leeds and Manchester stores came after this, and the launch of the online store in 2011 has been equally successful. His mens and womens collections use strong tailoring and have an exclusive feel, with only a few of each design being made.

His collection used classic ideas in a completely unconventional way. The draping gave the women a stunning silhouette with a grungey feel, and asymmetrical tailoring gave a quirky outlook on some beautiful and flattering cuts. There was a hint of dominatrix-esqe attire with pvc and choker detailing, which gave the collection that extra edge from other designers on the catwalk. The waterfall and snood dresses were a highlight of the womenswear collection, and the drop crotch trousers teamed with lopsided tailored jackets was a perfect combination for menswear.

A gorgeous collection from a commendable Northern designer, I’ll be sure to use my much appreciated 30% off discount card in the Manchester branch very soon.
