“Priti is my name, photography is my game. Not to sound cheesy but I have always loved taking photos from a young age, more specifically with music. I have always enjoyed going to gigs and there was something about live music, the lights, the people the buzz etc that made me want to capture the whole environment. In my opinion, music heals the soul and it can make people feel SO good – I get that feeling from my photography work.

I received my first digital SLR in 2009 as part of my birthday present. At that time, photography for me was just a hobby, but I found it so liberating and I slowly found myself building a portfolio of live acts. In 2011, I decided to go travelling for a year; I had a great opportunity to work on different types of photography whilst out there and the experience I gained has been invaluable. I started finding that I was doing documentary style photography as I was trying to tell a story each time I went and experienced something. Its like a jigsaw puzzle – finding the pieces to tell a story! Even though I was a million miles away from home (Australia, Bali, Thailand, Tokyo, Hong Kong), I was missing manchester music scene massively.

I took for granted just how much talent there was here in Manchester and realised how lucky I have been to collaborate and work with some of these talented people in 2010 (acts including The Dirty Troubles, Shadow Riots and Striplight Butterflies). They were all unsigned artists but there was so much talent – I’m still in touch with them and hope to work with them again soon.

Upon returning from travels, I was itching to get back into the music scene and have since been lucky enough to work with some of the local talent including: Team Duo, The Rubys, DaystarThe DunwellsTom Byrne & Friends and Sam Smith & Company. In 2010, I had the opportunity to shoot The Dillinger Escape Plan, Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip, Brendan Benson and a fair few others!

Having studied Multimedia and Internet Technology at the University of Salford, a year in the industry taught me that unfortunately, it wasn’t the right career choice – being in an office on a 9-5 just isn’t for me! I draw inspiration from lights, music and people….maybe thats why I love music photography! Nowadays I am expanding into the wedding photography market as well as concentrating more on editorial shoots and portraits. I most definitely love working with artists from the local scene and would LOVE to work with any up-and-coming creatives, so please get in touch! 🙂

Just recently I put together styled shoots for personal projects – one was a vintage camper themed shoot http://pshikotra.wordpress.com/2012/01/09/campervan-sunny-manchester-failure/ and the second was a rocker love shoot http://pshikotra.wordpress.com/2012/02/27/a-hummer-cakes-and-a-deathhawk/ – I love to work on these personal projects as its a way of gaining new ideas and increasing my love of photography! Thanks for reading!”

Thanks Priti, all the best for the future!
