Julie Haslam’s Domestic Bliss

Business Boom Bolton has recently spoken to local lecturer and entrepreneur Julie Haslam about her home accessories company Domestic Bliss.

As a senior lecturer of textiles at the Manchester Metropolitan University as well as the founder of Domestic Bliss, it is fair to say that Julie Haslam is well experienced in the creative industry. It is not only this, however, that sets Julie apart; when you speak to her about her profession, it is clear that Julie has always had a passion for textiles which truly resonates with her students and customers alike. Since 2003, she has been selling and exhibiting her intriguing and bespoke products all around the world and is due for further exhibitions in Spinningfields, Manchester and across the nation on tour in October and November respectively.  Julie told Business Boom that the inspiration for her nostalgic designs came about quite suddenly, explaining that she “discovered an old hand-written notebook that belonged to my grandmother which included various recipes and shopping lists. The way it’s written in such a nonchalant manner, the content itself as well as the book’s fragility all give a sense of family, home and tradition and of course, an idea of what people bought in the early 20th century!” The range of products includes tea towels, napkins, silk cushions, aprons and more that would look great in any household.
